Cubic Telecom to offer Free international calls?

It seems this September is going to be a big month for VOIP and telecom industry overall. A possible Gphone announcement(will cover more news on Gphone) and Cubic Telecom's likely role in this release is gonna keep me busy this September. Hopefully the news come out good and its favourable for the consumers.

Cubic telecom however are a bit ahead of google and already started dishing out their plans on what we can expect from then in the coming years. Cubic plans to become the world’s first truly global mobile service provider. They have raised over 5 million Euro in VC funding. Cubic is founded by fellow blogger Pat Phelan of Roam4Free. Pat has already promised VOIP Guide of some exciting news coming up in the next 2-3 weeks. We are all ears.

The most prominent sentence in the whole PR release was "Cubic is working towards free speech." They also promised to cut down the cost of mobile communication to significantly low or nil.

According to Pat (I take it highly official), We want a world in which you can pick up your mobile phone anywhere and call anyone for as long as you like and not worry about the price. When most people think about driving down the cost of telephone calls, they think of calling from computer-to-computer. We don’t. We deliver simple, high quality, high value telephone services direct to the devices that people like to use - their mobile phones. There’s no software to download, nothing to configure, nothing new to learn. Our service is straightforward and our network caters to all.

Way to go, I dont want to jump to conclusions but does that mean Cubic is trying to minimise the international mobile call charges to extremely low or probably FREE?
I suspect Cubic is trying to operate this Maxroam model?

Cubic also going to launch this service in over 160 countries. I hope they are taking Asia seriously. The "Chindia" region can make this service more interesting.

So great job Pat. We seriously hope you kick a$ of traditional facist telecom operators :-) and finally can we expect free international calls at all?
